Chloe + Emerson’s Dreamy DC Cherry Blossom Engagement Session
After the winter we had this year in the DMV (hello snow-crete), the beginning of spring (and namely cherry blossom season) have been much awaited. Once the magnolias and cherry blossoms start to bloom, the entire city transforms into the most perfect soft, dreamy backdrop. While the Tidal Basin is Washington DC’s go-to spot to see the cherry blossoms, many of my couples are looking for something a bit more intimate and stress-free.
That’s why I absolutely loved shooting Chloe’s and Emerson’s DC cherry blossom engagement session at the U.S. Capitol Building. We practically had the space to ourselves (unheard of during cherry blossom season), plus we had the added bonus of some iconic DC architecture and saucer magnolias.

While the Tidal Basin is iconic, it can feel like a production with thousands of tourists competing for the same photo spots. For couples who value a little more privacy and a lot more room to move around, the Capitol grounds offer a more relaxed and intimate experience.
The architecture of the Capitol provides a classic, timeless backdrop that perfectly complements the whimsical blossoms. Plus, the variety of trees and blooms on the Capitol lawn means we can find those perfect peak bloom spots evens if the Tidal Basin trees are slightly ahead or behind schedule.

As a Washington DC and Northern Virginia engagement photographer, my goal is always to make sure you feel comfortable and present throughout your session. Here are a few tips for making your Capitol Hill engagement session a success.

I’d love to help you navigate the city and capture your story in a way that feels like you!
